We are highlighting 5 incredible charities that embody pride through their support for LGBTQ+ communities. From schools to public offices to the workplace, these organizations are on the front lines for LGBTQ representation, liberation and empowerment. GLSEN
GLSEN (pronounced like glisten) is a national network dedicated to ensuring every student has the right to a safe, supportive, and LGBTQ-inclusive K-12 education. Founded by a group of educators, GLSEN supports legislation designed to protect the most vulnerable and marginalized communities such as the Safe Schools Improvement Act and the Student Non-Discrimination Act.
Born This Way Foundation
Born This Way Foundation is a charity co-founded and led by Lady Gaga and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta. It aims to support the mental health of young people and works with them to create a kinder and braver world. Through high impact programming, youth led conversations and strategic, cross-sectoral partnerships, they “aim to make kindness cool, validate the emotions of young people, and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health.
The Trevor Project
The Trevor Project serves the most vulnerable communities by providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth. They offer accredited life-saving, life-affirming programs and services online and in person – including a 24/7 crisis hotline that has helped hundreds of thousands of callers.
It Gets Better Project
The It Gets Better Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting, empowering and connecting LGBTQ youth around the globe. A global project, It Gets Better reaches millions of young people every year through storytelling in inspiring media programming and building community. Over 600,000 have pledged that it gets better – that they believe in a world where hope outshines fear.
GLAAD
GLAAD is a dynamic media force rewriting the script for LGBTQ acceptance. In 1985, GLAAD was formed by a small group of journalists outraged by the New York Post’s defamatory and bigoted coverage of the HIV and AIDS crisis. The organization is responsible for the USPS Stamp commemorating Stonewall, Hallmark’s reversal of the word “lesbian” in greeting cards, and the March On Washington for LGBTQ Equality among many other important shifts in LGBTQ acceptance.
